The Medway Fire Department was founded in 1973. Currently the department has a roster of fifteen paid on-call firefighters including: the Chief, Deputy Chief, two Lieutenants, firefighters, junior firefighters, and traffic control personnel.
The Medway Fire Department covers the entire town of Medway including Interstate 95 from Mile 242 to Mile 249. They also cover Molunkus Township, and provide/receive mutual aid from East Millinocket, Mattawamkeag, Millinocket and Sherman Fire Departments.
The Department responds to an average of 90+ calls per year.
The Department houses two apparatus; Tanker 881 and Engine 882.
About The Trucks:
Tanker 881 is a 2011 Fouts Brothers Kenworth. It has a 1250 gallons per minute pump and carries 3000 gallons of water.
Engine 882 is a 1987 Pierce Arrow. It has a 1250 gallons per minute pump and carries 2000 gallons of water.
About The Chief:
Jon E. Buckingham Sr. was born and raised in Millinocket, ME. He first joined the Medway Fire Department in 2003 while still in high school. In 2006 he received an Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology from Southern Maine Community College. In 2007 he completed his Firefighter 1 and 2 Certifications. Throughout the years he has served with several other fire departments throughout the state including the Cape Elizabeth Fire Department, Yarmouth Fire Department, Millinocket Fire Department, East Millinocket Fire Department, and the Mattawamkeag Fire Department. He is a Nationally Certified Fire Instructor 1 and 2.
Jon has been the Medway Fire Chief since July 2014 when he took over as interim. He became the towns first on duty Fire Chief in June 2015 and has regular hours 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Friday.
